Author and photographer Michael Hodges will receive the AIA Michigan Balthazar Korab Award for his recently published biography of industrial architect Albert Kahn.

The Michigan chapter of the American Institute of Architects will honor Detroit News arts reporter Michael Hodges with its "Balthazar Korab Award" for his recently published biography of Albert Kahn.

"Building the Modern World: Albert Kahn in Detroit" was released in April by Wayne State University Press.

The award, named for the legendary architectural photographer, will be presented Friday evening at the AIA Michigan Design and Honor Awards dinner at the Roostertail on the Detroit River.

According to the AIA Michigan website, the annual award is given "in recognition of an individual’s significant effort and contribution to architecture and/or the arts."

Hodges, who both writes and photographs his books, has worked at The News since 1991.

His first book, "Michigan's Historic Railroad Stations," was published by WSU Press in 2012 and was a Library of Michigan "Notable Book."
