John has worked at the News since 1995, beginning his career covering the Red Wings’ Stanley Cup runs before taking on a role as a sports feature writer in the 2000s. He has covered six Olympic Games for the News and also spent time as the Lions’ beat writer, including the infamous 0-16 season in 2008. He moved into his current role as a sports columnist in 2010. A native of Ames, Iowa, he graduated from the University of Michigan in 1993.
