General Motors Co., Honda Motor Co. and GM's self-driving unit Cruise LLC are planning to launch autonomous vehicle service in Japan in early 2026, the companies said late Wednesday.

The companies have formed a memorandum of understanding, establishing a joint-venture company to launch the driverless ride-hail service in Japan.

The service will launch with the Cruise Origin AV shuttle built at GM's Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center. GM will manufacture about 500 Origins for the launch of the new JV.
