Debbie Dingell  is seeking her fourth term, and voters in the 12th District, which encompasses most of Washtenaw County and much of Wayne County, should return her to Congress.

One of the things we appreciate most about Dingell, D-Dearborn, is her commitment to bipartisanship. Dingell has worked well with members of Congress from both sides of the political aisle, including Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, putting her passion for Michigan above partisan bickering.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell

As Dingell wrote in our questionnaire: “Compromise is not a dirty word and more needs to be done to foster a spirit of bipartisan cooperation in Congress. This starts by putting more of an emphasis on civility.”

Even though we don’t agree with all her policy stances, we know she has the best interests of her district at heart.

Dingell faces a challenge from Republican Jeff Jones of Taylor, who has spent his career in business and the ministry. He’s made several previous runs for this seat. Jones did not return our candidate questionnaire nor did he respond to requests for an interview.

Dingell has spent her career fighting for issues impacting women and children, and she’s continued that work in Congress. Other issues that are of top importance to her include improving health care, protecting the Great Lakes, lowering prescription drug costs and reducing gun violence. Dingell has also proven a champion for the automotive industry and has worked to keep Michigan at the heart of the industry as it moves toward an autonomous future, in addition to advocating for regulatory certainty.

Debbie Dingell has demonstrated she's an effective leader, and has earned another two years in Congress.
