Michigan hires ex-CMU coach, MSU QB Dan Enos

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s staff continues to be reshaped with the reported addition of Dan Enos, the former Central Michigan head coach and Michigan State quarterback.

A source confirmed to The Detroit News a report Friday by Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports that Enos has joined the staff, but it’s unclear in what capacity. He most recently was offensive coordinator at Arkansas the last three seasons.

This is not the first change to Michigan’s staff. Greg Frey, who spent the past season as Michigan’s run-game coordinator and tackles/tight ends coach, is returning to his alma mater, Florida State, to coach the offensive line, Feldman reported Thursday. Also on Thursday, it was widely reported that Al Washington, who spent the last season at Cincinnati, is joining Harbaugh’s staff. Michigan confirmed the hire of Washington on Friday but Washington’s position group has not been determined.

Enos, a Dearborn native, was the Central Michigan head coach for five seasons.

Before that, Enos, 49, worked under Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio when he coached at Cincinnati. Enos was the quarterbacks coach for two seasons before moving on to Michigan State, where he was quarterbacks coach in 2006 and running backs coach from 2007 to 2009. He took over at CMU in 2010.

He was a quarterback at Michigan State and started during the 1989 and 1990 seasons.

Michigan announced Thursday the hiring of Ben Herbert as director of strength and conditioning. He spent the past five seasons at Arkansas working with head coach Bret Bielema. He had worked 11 seasons at his alma mater, Wisconsin, where he was a defensive lineman.
