UM’s Chris Partridge gets raise, new responsibilities

Michigan assistant Chris Partridge, heavily pursued by other programs, including national champion Alabama, is getting a significant salary bump after deciding to stay with the Wolverines.

Partridge will make $500,000 each of the next two years according to a memorandum of understanding he signed Jan. 11. Also, Sherrone Moore, a new staff addition, has agreed to a two-year deal that will pay him $225,000 this season to coach tight ends and $250,000 next season.

The Detroit News obtained the documents on Monday through the Freedom of Information Act.

Partridge was making $350,000 a year coaching linebackers and special teams in a two-year deal that expired earlier this month. His duties now have changed — he will coach safeties, and will be the special-teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator on Jim Harbaugh’s staff.

During his time at Michigan, which included working as the director of player personnel his first season, Partridge has been considered one of the elite recruiters nationally. He was named national recruiter of the year by Rivals in 2016 and by 247Sports in 2017.

Reports recently surfaced that Alabama coach Nick Saban was trying to hire him to his staff.

Moore, who most recently coached tight ends the last four seasons at Central Michigan, is among a number of new additions to Harbaugh’s staff. Dan Enos, the former Central Michigan coach and Michigan State quarterback and most recently the offensive coordinator at Arkansas, was hired to coach receivers, while Al Washington will coach linebackers and work as an assistant on special teams. Ben Herbert was hired as the team’s new strength and conditioning coach.
