Keon Coleman didn't have to wait long to hear his name called during the second day of the NFL Draft on Friday.

With the first pick of the second round, No. 33 overall, the Buffalo Bills selected Coleman, the former Michigan State wide receiver who shined last season at Florida State.

Coleman left Michigan State after two seasons and transferred to Florida State, where he posted 658 receiving yards on 50 catches and 11 touchdowns in 2023. He declared for the NFL Draft shortly after the Seminoles went undefeated for the regular season but were controversially left out of the College Football Playoff.

Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman (4), who started his college career at Michigan State, was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Before that, Coleman posted career highs at Michigan State, recording 58 receptions for 798 yards as a sophomore in 2022. He finished his three seasons in college with 1,506 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns on 115 receptions.

Coleman might be the closest the Spartans will be to being represented in this year’s draft as no other Michigan State players have popped off the charts during the pre-draft process.

Center Nick Samac is a name to watch out for. Samac suffered a lower-leg injury on the first drive of the Spartans’ game at Indiana on Nov. 18 and has been limited in the pre-draft workouts as he continues to work through the rehabilitation process.

Before 2021, Michigan State had a player selected in 80 consecutive NFL drafts. The Spartans have had seven players selected in the past two drafts combined, but there are slim pickings for NFL teams from last season’s Michigan State roster.

The three-day draft began Thursday in Detroit and ends Saturday, the likeliest day Samac might hear his name if he does.
