Lions’ Darius Slay, Jamal Agnew earn All-Pro honors

Allen Park — The Detroit Lions only have one Pro Bowler, but two of the team’s players have been named to the Associated Press’ All-Pro team.

Cornerback Darius Slay, the lone Lions player selected to the Pro Bowl, earned first-team honors as a defensive back. He’s joined on the first team by rookie Jamal Agnew, who made it as a punt returner.

In his fifth season, Slay paced the NFL with eight interceptions and 26 pass defenses, despite being asked to shadow top receivers almost every week.

Agnew, a fifth-round pick, was the league’s best punt returner and the only player to score two touchdowns as a return man in 2017. His 15.4-yard average returning punts was the best in five years.

No other Lions player received a vote from the panel of 50 voters.

Also making the first team were several players with ties to the state of Michigan, including former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots, former Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell of the Pittsburgh Steelers (named to the flex position), and former Central Michigan wide receiver Antonio Brown of the Steelers.
