Detroit News predictions: Lions at 49ers
Justin Rogers, John Niyo and Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News offer their predictions on the outcome of Sunday’s Lions-49ers game at Levi’s Stadium (4:05 p.m., Fox/WJR 760).
Justin Rogers: Things aren't are bad as they appeared on Monday night, but legitimate concerns linger about the run defense, pass rush and ground game. My gut is telling me Ziggy Ansah is a no-go for this one, exacerbating two of those three issues and making it unlikely the Lions get back on track out West. 49ers, 27-20
John Niyo: The Lions haven't won a game in San Francisco since 1975. Matt Patricia has never started a season 0-2 in 14 years as an NFL coach. For the former to change, it'll require a defensive effort like the one the Vikings had last week. But the Lions have shown no signs they're ready to produce one of those. 49ers, 27-24
Bob Wojnowski: There’s no way the Lions are as bad as they showed Monday night, right? There’s no way Matthew Stafford is throwing four interceptions again, right? That might be right, but it also might not matter against the 49ers, who have a purported prodigy at quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo and a defense that can harass the passer. At some point, the Lions’ expensive offensive line has to make a difference, but not on the road after a short week. 49ers, 27-17
